Fantastic. I’m happy to talk more about this — I’ve been thinking about this for two decades now… and haven’t ever really felt I’ve been able to make much progress. I’m now thinking perhaps I was trying for the wrong kind of progress? So, my new vision, at least as a design educator, is to rethink/rewrite graphic design pedagogy to include sustainability, social justice, restorative practice, etc. as its core underpinnings — how can we rethink good form, good type, good design — if it hasn’t measured carbon foot print or accounted for injustice then its bad design regardless of whatever else it looks like or functions like… How too can all “signs” signal sustainability along with whatever other messages they are signaling. I’m working on a class for the spring where the students will help to do all of this!
